Bovingdon and District Horticultural Society have in the past entered the RHS Hampton Court Flower Shows with some success

It may not be common knowledge but there are competitions at the major flower shows other than the small and grand gardens seen on the television programmes. There are also competitions open to regional Horticultural Societies to promote small gardens, hanging baskets and the like.

From 2002 - 2009 we entered the Hampton Court shows and won quite a few medals as a result; 2 Bronze, 3 Silver and 2 Silver-Gilt.  From 2002 - 2007 the class entered was for ‘Window Box and Hanging Basket’ but for 2008/9 we entered the ‘Inspiring Places’ class. 2008 was not a success but for 2009 we tried again and this time our entry was accepted.

Society member Doug Leslie took on the challenge

of design and construction and with the able

assistance of members Sue Miller and Elizabeth

Hobson, Sue doing all of the paperwork and

coordinating the entry and with Liz creating a

3D visual drawing, the entry was accepted.

All plants with exception of the Cordyline were

from Doug’s own garden and the picture to the

left shows Doug’s final effort.
