Spring Show Report - 2015

April 11, 2015

1.  Entries

This year we had 25 entrants providing a total of 225 entries which was up on last year.

The weather has been kind and we had a near record number of daffodil entries this year filling the hall with daffodils of all colours shapes and sizes. It is the show in which our members and friends can demonstrate their talent for painting which were of a particularly high standard. The Floral Arts Section was given a boost by the presence of entries from the West Herts College and we hope that they will come again. We also included a Children’s Section in our Spring Show for the first time.

The show was a success not only from the number of entries but the quality of the exhibits showing that the village Bovingdon remains really committed to this kind of event.

2.  The Winners

The Wildacre Cup for the exhibiter gaining the most points in the Flower Sections and to whom the Daffodil Society Medal was awarded was Brian Stewart.  Once again he was closely run by Gill Johansson but there are others who are working hard to challenge them which is really good to see.  Mavis Lawrence won the Florist of Bovingdon Voucher for her brilliant Floral Art arrangement “The Big Top”.  Shirley Masterson was awarded the Challenge Cup for her Needlecraft exhibit and Shirley Crockford won the Pendley Estates Trophy for her painting of Chimneys which was the best exhibit in the Art Section.  Six years old Charlotte Jobling won the Junior Cup for her decoration of a pair of boots for a clown.
